A message from R. Judson Carlberg
WENHAM, MA-Today Gordon College officially announces the largest gift in its history--Dale E. and Sarah Ann Fowler have committed $60 million from their estate to the College as unrestricted endowment. In response to this significant gift, Gordon will officially name its Wenham campus the Dale E. and Sarah Ann Fowler Campus.
"Dale E. and Sarah Ann Fowler are two generous, unique and dedicated Christians," says R. Judson Carlberg, president of Gordon College. "After seeing the excellent educations that their grandchildren are receiving at Gordon College, the Fowlers made an historic transformational gift to ensure the financial future of this place called into being 118 years ago. The Fowlers not only want Gordon to be a stronger college; they hope that others will join them in strengthening Gordon's educational experience."
The Fowlers have already demonstrated their commitment to the College by funding other projects including: new bleachers on the Brigham Athletic Complex; the refurbishment of the Frost Hall lobby; the reworking of the approach, landscape and entryway of Frost Hall; and a pledge to fund the salary, benefits, expenses and office space for a admissions recruiter in southern California.
"The Fowlers' gift is often the most difficult money for colleges and nonprofits to raise as most gifts go towards a specific project," says Dan Tymann, executive vice president for advancement, communication and technology at Gordon College. "Their generosity will not only secure the financial future of the College, but will also allow Gordon to invest in more student scholarships, enhance faculty salaries, support new and ongoing programs and assist with capital projects."
The current endowment at Gordon is approximately $33 Million; the Fowler gift will nearly triple that amount.
"Gordon is graduating young men and women that are committed to historical Christianity, as is described in the Bible, and they're being educated to make a difference for the better around the world," said Dale E. Fowler. "We see ourselves as ambassadors of Jesus Christ and we see that same theme running through Gordon College."
Mr. and Mrs. Fowler reside six months out of the year in southern California and six months in Pittsfield, MA. If you are a member of the press and would like to request an interview with or photos of the Fowlers, please email [email protected] or call 978-867-4569. Press photos are also available on the Media Resources page.
