WENHAM, MA-The Gordon Symphony Orchestra (GSO) presents world-renowned Mozart scholar Robert Levin's recent edition of Mozart's Requiem. Levin, a professor at Harvard University, will present a pre-concert lecture on the history of the Requiem and his research in preparing his edition of the score.

"Levin is a unique person in the world of music today. Both as a musicologist and as a piano performer, he is at the very top of his profession," says James Buswell, Director of the Gordon Symphony Orchestra. "His abilities in the area of improvisation are legendary, and his insights into especially the music of Mozart are sought after throughout the world of music. We're honored to perform his most recent edition of Requiem at Gordon."

The GSO will be joined by the Gordon College Choir and Symphonic Chorale under the direction of Oliver Goodrich, as well as soloists Mary Bulger, soprano, Heidi Clark, mezzo-soprano, Ruben Muresan, tenor and Reshaun Campbell, bass. The program will also include Finzi's Clarinet Concerto, featuring soloist William Kirkley, a long-time Gordon clarinet instructor.

Under the dynamic leadership of Grammy-nominated conductor James Buswell, assisted by Carol Ou, the GSO is uniquely comprised of students, faculty and friends of Gordon College. The group was created in 1992 by the late James Jorgenson, whose skill as an educator and musician provided the foundation and vision for this unique musical ensemble. This includes mentors from the greater Boston area and members of the applied instrumental faculty at Gordon, as well as young professionals who have established careers in the greater Boston area. Also advanced students, many from the New England Conservatory, have been chosen for this opportunity because of their skill and enthusiasm.

Due to the orchestra's growth and success, in 2003 the GSO received national acclaim for their involvement in a recording project for a series of music appreciation text books published by Prentice Hall, now accessible to university students across the United States.
