Richard Mouw and Clive Carver to Address Gordon Community During DEEP FAITH Week

“DEEP FAITH week provides set-apart space where Gordon students, faculty and staff can stop and think through their relationship to God amidst the busy semester.”

—Abram Kielsmeier-Jones, Director of Christian Life and Worship

Dr. Richard Mouw, President of Fuller Seminary, and Rev. Dr. Clive Calver, Pastor of Walnut Hill Community Church in Bethel, CT, will be the featured speakers during Gordon College’s annual DEEP FAITH week, February 11–13.

This year’s theme focuses on the need to critically assess the choices we make and the impact each has on our relation to God. During special morning and evening chapel services, these speakers will open the Scriptures, lead the community in prayer and focus on a renewal of loving God with all of our hearts, souls, strength and minds.

Dr. Mouw received an M.A. from the University of Alberta and a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago. Before assuming responsibilities at Fuller, he served as a professor of Christian theology at Calvin College for 17 years. Mouw has authored 17 books, including The God Who Commands, The Smell of Sawdust, and Culture and Common Grace. He also served as an editor of The Reformed Journal and on a variety of editorial boards, including the board of Books and Culture.

Rev. Dr. Clive Calver served as president of World Relief for seven years, traveling and serving the homeless while empowering the church to do the same. He is the author of 20 books and has made appearances on BBC, NPR and ABC’s Nightline.

Dr. Greg Carmer, Dean of Chapel, shares: “Dr. Mouw is trained in philosophy and has a pastor’s sensitivity. He is a public intellectual marked by incredible winsomeness and graciousness. Rev. Dr. Calver knows the gospel’s relevance to social justice and offers impassioned appeal to take seriously the claims of Christ.”

In hosting this event the Chapel Office seeks to bring the community together through an intentional week of prayer and reflection focused around a renewal of commitment to Christ.
