George Sweeting ’48 and his son Don recently published How to Finish the Christian Life: Following Jesus in the Second Half (Moody: 2012). In addition to writing, George serves as chancellor emeritus at Moody, and as the part-time director of senior ministries at his local church, Chain of Lakes Community Bible Church.

 

 

 

As an outgrowth of her work at a local newspaper near Augusta, GA, Barbara (Carver) Seaborn ’53 recently published As Long As the Rivers Run: Highlights from Columbia County’s Past. In the process she learned about the significant role played by the Quakers, Baptists and Methodists in the search for religious freedom. She also gained a life-changing understanding of the differences between New England and the South caused by slavery and the Civil War.

Wesley Joseph Mills ’76 has recently published Pieces of Passion in Search of Peace, a unique assortment of poetic reflections on the challenges of engaging passion and experiencing peace. Currently Dr. Mills is an associate professor at York County Community College in Maine, and also serves as adjunct faculty for online courses with Andover Newton Theological School, Boston. With degrees in political science, religion, and ethics, he has a long history of involvement in social justice projects.

 

 

 

 

June (Amaral) O’Donal ’77 has written The Fryeburg Chronicles, an educational, family-friendly historical fiction series published by Xulon Press. Amazing Grace, the first book, is set during the American Revolution. The second, A Secret and a Promise, takes place between 1792 and 1806.

 

 

 

 

Kevin C. Mills ’89, a sports journalist with the Lewiston (ME) Sun Journal, has published Breakwater, a follow-up to his first novel, Sons and Daughters of the Ocean. His nonfiction book, Sidelined, provides a unique look at journalism from the sidelines. Kevin has been recognized by the Maine Press Association and the New England Press Association and was voted Best Author in the Portland Phoenix 2011 Reader’s Poll.

 

 

 

Brian Van Brunt ’94's book, Ending Campus Violence: New Approaches to Prevention was published in June by Routledge.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Out of Reach, a young adult novel by Carrie (Lawler) Arcos ’95, was published in October by Simon Pulse, the teen imprint of Simon & Schuster.

 

 

 

 

 

In February, Matthew Murphy ’01 published his first book, 99 Thoughts on Caring for Your Youth Group.
