Theatre Scholarship Auditions

Students are not required to audition to be accepted into the Theatre Arts major. However, scholarships may be offered to especially talented students who audition before enrolling at Gordon.

Theatre Scholarships are awarded to theatre majors who demonstrate strong abilities as actors, directors, designers or stage manager, and have a desire to contribute significantly to Gordon’s theatre community. These Theatre Scholarships are stackable and renewable and range between $1,000–$3,000 / year.

How to schedule your Theatre Scholarship Audition

1. Fill out the Theatre Audition Application

The first step is to fill out the Theatre Audition Application. This simple form provides us your basic information and allows you to share any theatre or music experience, goals, or comments you may have.

Deadline: The audition application must be submitted by February 15 and the audition must take place by the end of February 2026 to be eligible for a Theatre major scholarship.

2. Schedule Your Audition on a Theatre Experience Day (recommended)

The audition application will allow you to indicate whether you'd like to schedule your audition on one of Gordon's Theatre Experience Days, request an individual audition date, or audition remotely.

Students are strongly encouraged to audition in person at one of our Theatre Experience Days. These special days allow you to attend a matinee performance of a mainstage play or musical, participate in a workshop, have dinner with the cast and crew, and audition for a scholarship in person.

We offer the following dates for live (in person at Gordon College) theatre auditions:

  • Saturday, November 1, 2025 (deadline to register: 10/26)
  • Saturday, February 21, 2026 (deadline to register: 2/15)

If circumstances prohibit you from attending a Theatre Experience Day you can indicate on the application your preference for an individual visit, in person at Gordon College, or a remote audition instead.

So, if you were to prepare one of Beatrice's monologues from Much Ado About Nothing, you should contrast that with a contemporary piece that is more dramatic. Please submit a headshot and resume at the time of the audition.
  • Vocalists: If you are interested in musical theatre, please prepare two contrasting one-minute excerpts (verse and chorus) from an up-tempo song and a ballad.
  • Directors: Submit your production notebook, if you have prepared one for a past production.
  • Designers: Scenic and lighting designers should submit a portfolio of work, including any scenic or costume renderings, designs, actual light plots, and production photos.
