Melancholy Play by Sarah Ruhl
Directed by Jill Rogati
Have you ever ached for something sad or beautiful and then intentionally played music that you know will make that ache worse? One of the many ridiculous things we humans do! With quirky humor and charm, Sarah Ruhl's Melancholy Play observes that melancholy is a different place to be than despair or depression—a place we can choose to leave, though we may not want to. The heroine, Tilly, is melancholy personified. Her melancholy is so alluring, every stranger she meets falls in love with her. As Tilly suddenly becomes happy and wreaks havoc on the lives of her paramours, the play takes the metaphor of an almond to an absurd end.
We are excited you plan to join us for Theatre Experience Day where students will participate in workshops, attend a matinee performance, and meet professors and students in the department. This day will give you a glimpse into life at Gordon and what it looks like to be a member of the theatre department on campus. See you there!
