
Carol Ou and Ya-fei Chuang will present Beethoven's Sonata in A major, Op. 69, Poulenc's Sonata (1948), and the Sonata in G minor, Op. 65 by Chopin.

The APFRS is proud to present Jeanne Stark-Iochmans. Ms. Stark-Iochmans graduated from the Royal Conservatory of Brussels and received the Conservatory's Prix de Virtuosite avec Grande Distinction. Born in Belgium, Ms. Stark-Iochmans won the Laure Van Cutsem Prize, appeared as soloist with her country's national orchestra and was selected to represent Belgium at an international festival of modern music in Bayreuth.
After coming to the United States for advanced study with Mieczyslaw Horszowski and Edwine Behre, Ms. Stark-Iochmans has gone on to perform internationally as well as in many venues in the United States including a solo recital program at Carnegie Hall and multiple recitals at Alice Tully Hall.

The October program will include a performance by student flutist Nathan Gosselin of Charles Griffes’ Poem for Flute and Band. Other selections will include Robert Russell Bennett’s Symphonic Songs for Band, Ralph Vaughan Williams’ The Lowlands of Scotland, and Mozart’s Ave Verum Corpus. Also included will be marches by Karl L. King and John Philip Sousa.

The Gordon Symphony Orchestra will open their 2008-2009 season with the following program:
Gliere: Concerto for Horn and Orchestra in B, Op.91
Brahms: Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 77 James Buswell, violin
Beethoven: Symphony No. 5

The Symphonic Band's half of the program will include a musical tribute to the late President John F. Kennedy – Joseph LoPresti’s Elegy for a Young American. Also on the program will be selections by Todd Stalter, Jay Dawson and Ralph Vaughan Williams. Symphonic Chorale will conclude the evening with a selection of psalm settings.
