Outdoor Activity Restriction (Mosquito-borne Illness)

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (M.D.P.H) has determined that the risk level of mosquito-borne illness in Wenham is now HIGH. As a precautionary measure and with the recommendation of the M.D.P.H., both Gordon College and the Town of Wenham have decided to ban all outdoor, organized activities during peak mosquito hours (5 p.m. to 8 a.m.), effective immediately and until further notice.

It is strongly recommended that you avoid unnecessary outdoor activity during peak mosquito hours. If you must be outdoors during these times, we recommend the following precautions:

  • Use a mosquito repellent containing DEET;
  • Wear long sleeves, long pants and socks; and
  • Avoid outside areas with obvious mosquito activity.

For more information, please use the following resources:

The risk will be significantly reduced after the first, hard frost. We will notify the community when this happens, at which time the ban will be lifted.
