The Language of Science and Faith

Are science and religion at war? Or is this an outmoded way of thinking about the intersection of science and religion? Dr. Karl Giberson, an internationally known science and religion scholar, speaker and author, will address this topic on Tuesday, March 6 as he delivers the annual Crum Lecture at Gordon College.

Giberson, who has lectured at the Vatican, MIT and Oxford University, has appeared on the Milton Rosenberg show, is a New York Times “blogginghead” in the Robert Wright video series and has appeared on WBZ’s Higher Ground. His major publications include The Anointed: American Evangelical Experts; The Oracles of Science: Celebrity Scientists Versus God and Religion; and The Language of Science and Faith: Straight Answers to Genuine Questions. His latest book,The Wonder of the Universe: Hints of God in Our Fine-Tuned World has just been released.

He has published over 150 articles, reviews, and essays, both technical and popular, for major media publications such as USA Today; the LA Times; Discover; The Weekly Standard; Quarterly Review of Biology; Perspectives on Science & Faith; The Edge.org; and Books & Culture, and more.

Giberson blogs regularly at The Huffington Post where his articles often generate thousands of comments. He was the founding editor of Science & Theology News and served as editor-in-chief of Science & Spirit magazine from 2003-2006. "Giberson is not only a first-rate scientific mind," says Tal Howard, director of the Center for Christian Studies, "but someone who writes and speaks with great eloquence, making clear the importance of science to religious audiences and the enduring power of theological questions to the scientific community."
