The Center for Student Counseling and Wellness
- Guides and supports students in removing barriers to growth and wellness via community connections, self-help resources, psychoeducation modules and workshops, peer and group support, single-session counseling, and individual therapy by using a Stepped-Care Model approach.
- Supports our campus community by providing wellness education and mental health resources that both promote and prioritize well-being.
Our Philosophy
Understanding our own personal stories is vital to living life fully and well. Our stories are shaped by the interactions of our life events and what is occurring inside of us. Sometimes, these interactions limit our full measure of wellness. Healing and wholeness cannot happen in isolation. Living in community provides opportunities to practice vulnerability and to create intimate, transformative connections.
Our Mission
The Center for Student Counseling and Wellness strives to support Gordon College's Shalom Statement by equipping students with the knowledge and skills they need to experience healing and wholeness across all 8 Dimensions of Wellness.
Wellness is a state of flourishing, expressing each person's ability to thrive. It involves being aware of ourselves and others as whole people. We extend ourselves in ways that benefit each other, mindful that our collective wellness is foundational to a thriving community.
CSCW Staff
Here to support you
Each of our counselors is a professional, licensed clinician or is supervised by a licensed clinician and has extensive experience in the field of mental health. We consider it an honor and privilege to come alongside students as they navigate the challenging years of higher education. Our primary goal is to provide a safe and objective place where students can freely discuss issues or problems without concern of any disciplinary response or of information being shared with anyone else.
Gordon College Counseling Stepped Care Model
Stepped Care is a system of delivering and monitoring mental health treatment so the most effective, yet least resource-intensive treatment, is delivered first. Students seeking wellness services will move up and down the care model depending on their goals, presenting symptoms and the level of care needed. Step 1 is considered lower intensity, while Step 7 represents the most acute care. Intervention intensity may be stepped up or down according to their needs.
