Budgeting Resources & Tips
Before you depart for your study abroad program, it is helpful to create a budget for your time there. Before you go, calculate the amount of money you plan on spending and think about how much you would spend each week/month. Think about costs that are essential, such as food and housing, vs. costs that are "wants", like traveling, entertainment, souvenirs, etc.
Helpful Tips
- Check with your credit card or debit card company to see if your card has any international transaction or ATM withdrawal fees. These can add up over time!
- Check the exchange rate for the currency in the country that you are living in.
- Keep track of your expenses early during your time abroad to get an idea of how much you will be spending. You will most likely be spending more in your first few weeks abroad as you adjust to the exchange rate and search for local bargains.
