Spanish

Overview

The Spanish language is the key to unlocking the richness of Hispanic culture and the more than 20 different countries where Spanish is spoken, including the United States.

By studying Spanish as a minor at Gordon College, you’ll gain career-focused, four-skills language proficiency—speaking, reading, writing and listening—as you learn about the historical development and cultural distinctives of Spanish-speaking cultures. With opportunities to use Spanish in real-life contexts through interning or studying abroad in Spain, Central America or South America, you’ll fully immerse yourself in experiences that will take your Spanish communication skills to the next level.

Why study Spanish at Gordon?

At Gordon you’ll gain an understanding of how both language and culture work as you study Spanish through the lens of Christian faith. This will prepare you to engage, serve and learn from Spanish-speaking people wherever you encounter them, in the United States or abroad.

You'll benefit from authentic exposure to native Spanish speakers and their cultures. Take advantage of local opportunities in the diverse Greater Boston area or study abroad in places like Costa Rica, Chile or Spain. Both options will give you the chance to practice Spanish firsthand.

What can Christians bring to the study of the Spanish language?

Christians who speak Spanish fluently can share the good news of the Gospel across multiple languages. Christians fluent in Spanish not only have the chance to share the Gospel with more people but can also provide support, comfort and friendship through the connection of shared language.
