Apply for Federal Direct Loans

Please note that both steps listed below must be completed by the student.

Students who have been awarded a Direct Loan must complete two steps to accept the loan. Both steps can be completed online on the Department of Education’s Federal Student Aid Website.

STEP 1 of 2: COMPLETE A MASTER PROMISSORY NOTE

  • Sign in to the DOE Federal Student Aid Website
  • Select "Complete Aid Process", then “Complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN)”
  • Select “I'm an Undergraduate Student: MPN for Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loans"
  • After completing your MPN please see Step 2 below

Please be sure to read your promissory note and disclosures before signing.

STEP 2 of 2: COMPLETE THE DIRECT LOAN ENTRANCE COUNSELING
In order for your Direct Loan funds to be disbursed to the school, the student is federally required to complete Direct Loan Entrance Counseling. The interview consists of a series of questions that a student can complete online and is designed to ensure that the student understands the responsibilities and benefits of this loan. Once the student has completed the entrance counseling, the school will receive a notification, and funds for the student's Direct Loan will be released for disbursement.

  • After completing the MPN on the DOE Federal Student Aid Website:
  • Select "Complete Aid Process", then “Complete Entrance Counseling”
  • Select “I am an Undergraduate Student"
