Overview
A Post-Baccalaureate Program for Initial Licensure Certification K – 12 Music
Our curriculum is designed to bridge the gap to teacher licensure eligibility for candidates who have a bachelor’s degree in a discipline other than music education, and are seeking Initial Licensure endorsement for K – 12 Music. The Gordon Post Baccalaureate Program is fully approved and accredited as a teacher preparation program by the MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
Benefit from a unique licensure-only path to achieving your professional goals as an educator
- Advance from a preliminary or emergency teaching license to the Initial License
- Customized program of study based on previous undergraduate music coursework
- Flexible options for culminating teaching practicum, mentoring and observations
Convenient Part Time Schedule for Working Professionals
With in-person coursework and lab ensemble experiences concentrated during the summer term, combined with online learning during the academic year, this program is built for working professionals, career changers, and today’s educators.
Students are welcome to join our Summer Workshops for professional development or to earn graduate credit. Sometimes the Program Director may encourage you to take a workshop—especially if you’d benefit from a stronger foundation in music theory or other content areas required by the MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

I am surprised by how much more confident I feel in my conducting and overall musicianship. The supportive nature of my peers in my courses and lab ensembles creates an atmosphere where I feel comfortable trying new techniques. This mirrors the encouraging environment I strive to create for my own students. A place where it is okay to make mistakes and the main goal is to enjoy making music together. My goal as a teacher is to create meaningful experiences for my students through music making. Our learning experiences are directly applicable to our classrooms and what we do every day as music educators.
