Editorial Style Guide

When your writing will circulate to groups of alumni, families, institutional colleagues, or supporters, please refer to these pages for guidance about writing issues including:

  • Gordon's preferred "writing style"
  • how to spell, capitalize and punctuate Gordon-specific terms
  • points of usage, spelling, punctuation and formatting that often trip writers up (or for which several widely-accepted styles are in common use)

This guide's purpose is to encourage consistency in the College's official Web-based and print communications. It is not intended to suggest how members of the Gordon community should go about scholarly or creative writing.

If you have a question it does not address, from a computer on the Gordon College network you can consult the online Chicago Manual of Style, the style guide used by the Office of College Communications. It spells out preferred style for an extraordinary range of writing issues. (Access from computers elsewhere requires some extra steps; .)

Now that our style guide is online, we can update it easily to add new institutional terminology and reflect changes in usage. are welcome.
