Bio

Dr. Yi Yang obtained his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Boston University, followed by postdoctoral training in Mechanical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and in Materials Science and Engineering at the Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. He also gained professional experience as a consulting structural engineer in the offshore oil and gas industry. He is passionate about the interplay of mechanics, geometry, and materials in designing materials and structures that not only carry loads but also change shape on demand. His research is both curiosity-driven and engineering-oriented. Dr. Yang hopes to bring his curiosity-driven research into the classroom and the community, continuing to spark interesting ideas and inspire generations of students as they prepare for their future journeys at Gordon. Beyond his passion for engineering, he enjoys travel, hiking, and music.
