Bio
Mara Sidmore is theatre artist and educator focused on theatre as powerful tool for human development. She holds an MFA in Acting from Harvard University’s Institute for Advanced Theatre Training at the American Repertory Theatre/Moscow Art Theatre School and a Bachelor of Science degree in Education with a double major in English Literature from Gordon College.
Mara returns to Gordon from Northeastern University, where she was Associate Professor of Theatre and Arts Administration. In addition to teaching undergrads, she ran the graduate program in Arts Administration and Cultural Entrepreneurship at the College of Arts, Media & Design, mentoring aspiring arts and culture leaders around the globe. Mara has been on the theatre faculty of Emerson College, Boston Conservatory at Berklee, Bentley University, Boston Arts Academy, and The Winsor School. She also served as the Artistic Director of Applied Theatre Practice at Harvard’s Bok Center for Teaching and Learning.
In addition to her work in education, Mara has performed on many Boston area stages and is a Resident Acting Company Member with Actors’ Shakespeare Project (ASP) in Boston. Prior to her role at Northeastern, she was on staff at ASP, first as Director of Education, running award-winning programs with partners such as the Boston Public Schools and the Department of Youth Services (MA Juvenile Justice system), and subsequently stepping into the role of ASP’s Managing Director. When not teaching or performing, Mara works with the Ariel Group, an international leadership development firm, delivering theatre-based training and coaching for corporate executives around the globe.
