Jennifer Powell McNutt

An award-winning scholar and teacher, Dr. McNutt is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society and Senior Fellow of the Center for Pastor Theologians. Her research focuses on the history of Christianity, particularly the Reformation, John Calvin and the Reformed tradition, and the history of the Bible.

She earned her Ph.D. from the University of St. Andrews, M.Div. from Princeton Theological Seminary, and B.A. from Westmont College.

Her recent books include The Oxford Handbook of the Bible and the Reformation (co-edited with Herman J. Selderhuis, Oxford University Press, 2025), Know the Theologians (with David W. McNutt, Zondervan, 2024), and The Mary We Forgot: What the Apostle to the Apostles Teaches the Church Today (Brazos Press, 2024).

Dr. McNutt is also a Teaching Elder in the Presbyterian Church and regularly teaches and preaches in churches and seminaries across the country. Together with her husband, Rev. Dr. David McNutt, she leads McNuttshell Ministries, which seeks to bridge the church and the academy.

Rev. Dr. Jennifer Powell McNutt is the Franklin S. Dyrness Chair of Biblical and Theological Studies and Professor of Theology and History of Christianity at Wheaton College’s Litfin Divinity School, where she also directs the M.A. programs in Theology and History of Christianity.
