Bio

James is an education scholar whose research spans mathematics education for human flourishing, collective argumentation in STEM classrooms, and the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance teaching and learning. He earned his Ph.D. in Mathematics Education from the University of Georgia, an M.S. in Mathematics from Loyola University Chicago, and a B.A. in Mathematics and Secondary Education from Trinity International University. Before joining Gordon, he served as a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Virginia, where he contributed to a project exploring how AI can advance classroom instruction. He has also served as a mathematics teacher in Louisville, Kentucky; Chicago, Illinois; and Athens, Georgia—experiences that continue to inform his research and teaching.
