Bio
Eileen Yarrison has taught flute at Gordon College since 2008. She also serves on the faculty of Salem State University, teaches beginning flute classes in the Hamilton-Wenham and Newburyport Public Schools, and maintains a thriving private studio in Beverly, Massachusetts. She is a frequent adjudicator for both Massachusetts and New Hampshire All-State Festival auditions.
Highlights of her nearly 40-year collegiate teaching career include standing in for each of her former teachers at the University of New Hampshire, the University of Nebraska, and the Pennsylvania State University during their respective sabbaticals. Dr Yarrison has also served on the faculties of UNH-Manchester, the College of the Holy Cross, and Lasell College.
Dr Yarrison was the first flutist to earn the DMA from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and also holds degrees in flute performance and education from The Pennsylvania State University, and the University of New Hampshire.
A nationally recognized flute orchestra conductor, Dr Yarrison is the conductor of the Me2 Boston Flute Choir, part of the Me2 musical family, the world’s only classical musical organization created for individuals with mental illnesses and the people who support them. (me2music.org) This 36-member flute ensemble, founded in 2019, has played for audiences at Boston-area mental health centers and senior living centers, and Bridgewater State Hospital, and at the invitation of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, recently performed at the Concert for Our City at Symphony Hall.
Dr Yarrison has also conducted the National Flute Association's Professional Flute Choir, and flute ensembles at the Mid-Atlantic Flute Festival, the International Low Flutes Society, and many times for the New Hampshire All-State Chamber Music Festival. For twenty-five years she was the conductor of the Nashua Flute Choir/New England Flute Orchestra/Flute Orchestra of Indian Hill-Groton Hill, which performed at many NFA conventions, recorded three CDs, and has a substantial presence on YouTube.
Dr Yarrison is the principal flute soloist of The Orchestra On The Hill, a contemporary multi-media ensemble based in Ipswich, MA, which collaborates with local composers, artists, poets, and dancers, and speakers. She has also performed in the flute sections of the Omaha and Lincoln Symphony Orchestras, Opera Omaha and the Omaha Ballet of Nebraska; and the Altoona Symphony, Centre Country Chamber Orchestra, and Music at Penn's Woods Festival Orchestras of Pennsylvania.
