Social Studies Minor

Overview

Are you interested in history, civics and economics? Passionate about teaching these subjects to others?

Gordon College’s social studies minor will deepen your knowledge of significant periods in history, so you can have an impact on the next generation. From the Roman Empire to current American politics, the Civil Rights movement to globalization, you’ll be well-prepared to teach social studies and pass on the wisdom of the past to the leaders of the future.

Why study social studies education at Gordon?

This minor draws on classes from the Herschend School of Education and the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, giving you a unique, interdisciplinary approach to social studies education.

You’ll also benefit from Gordon’s location on the North Shore, where you'll find some of the nation's richest historical and cultural resources, from the Museum of Fine Arts to the Boston Public Library and beyond.

How can I live out my faith in the field of social studies education?

Christian educators with a focus on social studies seek human flourishing, recognizing that all human beings are created in the image of God. With this perspective educators can help guide young learners through challenging conversations and encourage learning from difficult events in history.
