Finance

Overview

With a career in finance, you’ll help organizations or individuals manage their resources and wealth by offering expertise on how to budget for capital expansion, maximize return on investments and raise funds at the lowest cost. The Finance major will prepare you for a broad spectrum of careers in the financial industry, including corporate finance, public finance, insurance, financial advisory and investments while teaching you to intertwine your faith with your vocation.

Why study finance at Gordon?

Gordon finance graduates perform very well on both the Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA) and the Certified Financial Planner® (CFP) exams. In fact, in preparation for your finance career, you may even opt to sit for Level 1 of the CFA exam prior to graduation.

Situated just north of Boston—a hub for many of the nation’s largest asset management firms—you’ll have opportunities for critical hands-on learning and internships. You’ll also benefit from personal mentorship by faculty who’ve held a range of financial analysis jobs and are active executives, accountants, investors and more as well as seasoned Christians who are ready to walk alongside you in your spiritual growth.

What can Christians bring to finance?

Using their God given gifts, Christians within the finance world can move beyond just managing resources and embrace stewarding resources. On an individual level, Christians can honestly and appropriately help people move from debt to wealth. In assisting companies with their finances, Christians can approach the marketplace on mission cultivating integrity and wise stewardship.

Courses

Finance Courses

The finance major utilizes foundational and elective courses from both accounting and economics to develop the tools and understandings essential to competent financial theory and practice. This knowledge base is extended and specialized to the finance discipline through the study of international capital markets and financial institutions, financial planning and control, capital budgeting and development of capital resources. The two elective courses allow students to emphasize either corporate finance or financial markets/institutions.
