The Communication Arts Program Presents

Performing Shalom

Film Premiere

Saturday, May 30, 2026 | 4:00 p.m.
MacDonald Auditorium, Ken Olsen Science Center

A project designed to unify diverse Christian communities of Greater Boston through the transformative power of the arts, reflecting the theme of Performing Shalom.

Our mission is to see the formation of a multi-denominational choir, drawing members from various backgrounds, denominations, and cultural contexts. An open call has invited individuals of differing ages, races, genders, and occupations to participate, ensuring the choir mirrors the rich diversity of the region.

Elements of Storytelling & Film Production

A key element of our project is its focus on storytelling and film production. We will document the personal narratives of choir members, capturing their faith journeys, migration experiences, and connections to the community.

Film students interview choir performers after their show on stage

The journey from auditions to performances will be filmed, highlighting the collaborative process and the impact on both participants and audiences. We will conduct interviews with church leaders and worship directors to explore the role of music in worship and community building. These conversations will offer insight into the challenges of leading multicultural congregations, as well as the importance of storytelling in strengthening community ties.

The culmination of these efforts will be a documentary film that weaves together the choir’s journey, personal stories, and performances into a compelling narrative of unity and faith. Beyond capturing the spirit of Shalom, the film will serve as a platform for broader community engagement. To extend the project’s reach, the documentary and selected highlights from the choir’s journey will be shared on YouTube and other digital platforms.

The project will create an archive of oral histories documenting the experiences and stories of participants, preserving and celebrating the heritage of Boston’s Christian communities. Through public performances, a culminating event, and online engagement, we aim to foster a connected network of individuals and groups dedicated to the mission of building a more unified and harmonious society.
