Artist-in-Residence Mia Chung and Special Guest Alina Polyakov Perform Duo Piano Recital *SOLD OUT*

WENHAM, MA-On Friday, January 19, Gordon Artist-in-Residence Mia Chung and fellow Gordon faculty pianist Alina Polyakov, will perform a duo piano recital in support of the Gordon College music program. This special benefit concert will feature works by Schubert, Brahms and Rachmaninoff.

Mia Chung, an Associate Professor of Music at Gordon, has enjoyed great success as a recitalist, concerto soloist and chamber musician and in 1993 won the prestigious Concert Artists Guild Competition. In 1997 she received the Avery Fisher Career Grant, the highest recognition for young concert artists in the United States.

Chung has performed extensively as concerto soloist with orchestras such as the Baltimore Symphony, National Symphony, Corpus Christi Symphony, Harrisburg Symphony, KBS Symphony Orchestra in Seoul, and the Seoul Philharmonic. An active recitalist, known for her combinations of performance and engaging conversation, Ms. Chung has performed in major concert halls around the world, including the John F.Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, and Lincoln Center.

Alina Polyakov arrived at Gordon College in 1989 when she immigrated to the United States from the Ukraine in the former Soviet Union. At the age of 10 Polyakov was a national competition winner and was invited to continue her studies in the Kiev Special Music School for Gifted Children. Her principal teachers were Emil Gilels, Yuri Petrov and Leonid Brumberg. Polyakov holds a Ph.D. from Gnessin's Conservatory of Music in Moscow.

Polyakov has directed piano master classes at the Vienna Conservatory and the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow. As a member of the Rachmaninov Trio, Polyakov has performed extensively throughout the United Kingdom and the United States. The trio has performed at such venues as Hutchenson's Hall, the Royal Academy of Music and St. Andrews University. Polyakov's performances have been aired throughout metropolitan Boston on WGBH Radio 89.7 and WHDH-TV. She is also on the faculty of Atlantic Union College and the Boston Conservatory.
