GORDON SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
The GSO was founded in 1992 by James Jorgenson, whose skill as an educator and musician provided the ensemble's foundation and vision. The orchestra has since been conducted by Bruce Hangen and Walter Pavasaris. It is now under the direction of Dr. Jong-Hun Bae. The GSO performs a Fall and Spring concert every year, and is also an integral part of the annual Christmas Gala. The Department of Music also hosts an annual concerto competition, whose winner performs with the GSO on their Spring concert.
The GSO is primarily comprised of talented Gordon student instrumentalists (music majors, minors and non-majors), along with a number of community members, mentors from the greater Boston area and applied instrumental faculty from the Department of Music. Rehearsing alongside the students, the mentors and faculty have the opportunity to encourage and challenge students while demonstrating outstanding technique and musicality.
