Symphony Orchestra

Dr. Robert (Gabe) Southard, conductor

The Gordon Symphony Orchestra is one of many large ensemble performance opportunities at Gordon College. It is comprised of young artists pursuing music degrees within the Department of Music, as well as gifted performers studying in other disciplines across campus. This auditioned ensemble rehearses twice each week and presents a variety of repertoire, including masterpieces of the standard orchestral canon, new works written by leading contemporary composers, and music written for the stage, screen, and worship. Each academic year GSO performs chamber and symphony orchestra programs and plays a central role in the College's popular Christmas Gala and Spring POPS concerts. The orchestra collaborates regularly with Gordon’s renowned choral ensembles and accompanies the winner of the Department’s annual concerto competition. Through participation in GSO, student musicians are given unique opportunities to advance musical skills, pursue collaborative interests, and serve Boston's North Shore community.
