Orientation Schedule 2008

The following calendar of events is tentative and is subject to last-minute changes, but it will give you an idea of what you and your family can expect.


FRIDAY, AUGUST 22
1-2:30 p.m.
Residence Hall Check-In Group 1
(new students currently residing outside the New England states)

2:30-4 p.m. Residence Hall Check-In Group 2
(new students currently residing in the New England states)

1-6 p.m. Welcome Tent open

1-5 p.m. Campus Connections
Students complete necessary arrangements for connecting to campus; i.e., computer setup, finding mail, vehicle registration.

3-5 p.m. Foreign Language Placement Tests (for early arrivals, fall athletes and LaVida participants)

5:30-7:30 p.m. Parents' free time
(settle into hotel, eat dinner off campus, shop, etc. Local information available at Welcome Tent)

6-7:15 p.m. Dinner on quad required for all new students, hosted by Admissions Office

7:15-7:45 p.m. New students meet in Orientation CREW

7:45-11 p.m. Residence Life Kickoff--required for all residential students

7:45-10 p.m. Commuter Student Kickoff

7:30-8:15 p.m. Parents' Welcome Program hosted by President R. Judson and Jan Carlberg

7:30-9:30 p.m. Sibling programming and child care available in the Bennett Center

8:15-9:30 p.m. Parents' Dessert Reception


SATURDAY, AUGUST 23
8 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Welcome Tent open

8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Transfer Advising and Registration

8:30-11:30 a.m. Campus Connections continued (see above)

8:30-3 p.m. Foreign Language Placement Tests (individual test times will be assigned)

10:00 a.m. Campus forum for parents

11:15 a.m.-1:30 p.m.  Family Lunch

2-3:30 p.m. Parent programming electives

3:45-4:30 p.m. Assurance and Affirmation Service for all new students and family members

4:30-5:15 p.m. Family transition time--family members depart campus

5:30-6:30 p.m. Orientation Opening Program

6:30-8 p.m. Dinner with Orientation CREW

8-9:30 p.m. Orientation CREW Night in the Bennett Center

8-10 p.m. Transfer/consortium special programming

9:30-11 p.m. Coffee House


SUNDAY, AUGUST 24
10-11:30 a.m.
Brunch

11:30-11:45 a.m. Class of 2012 photo on chapel stairs

11:45 a.m. Depart for Urban Worship Experience in Boston

10:00 a.m.-10:30 p.m. Sunday Worship and BOSTON DAY


MONDAY, AUGUST 25
8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
Course registration and academic orientation

4:30-6:30 p.m. Student Employment Fair and Dinner

7:15-9:30 p.m. Faculty-Staff Desserts


TUESDAY, AUGUST 26
8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Student Life Orientation

11:15 a.m.-7 p.m. Music auditions (various times throughout the day)

5-6:15 p.m. Residence Life Floor Dinner

8-9 p.m. Orientation Closing Program--hosted by the senior class
