CIEE—Spanish Students

The Department of Language and Linguistics recommends that students studying Spanish and who are required to study abroad for a minimum of one semester select the CIEE program. (Please note: These programs are approved ONLY for students majoring in Spanish)

LOCATIONS
The locations that are available through CIEE are:

  • Argentina
  • Brazil
  • Chile
  • Costa Rica
  • The Dominican Republic
  • Mexico
  • Peru
  • Spain - earlier application deadline SEE BELOW!

COST
As a Spanish major, you pay regular Gordon semester costs (tuition, light board, housing and fees) and will be eligible to maintain all scholarships toward the cost of the program. The following is included:

  • Tuition and direct program costs
  • Room and board (Note: in some CIEE programs, only two meals per day are covered)
  • Medical Insurance (provided by CIEE)
  • Round-trip airfare from the nearest international airport (airfare limit dependent upon location, from $600 for Dominican Republic to $1,100 for Argentina)

Personal expenses, local travel, extra meals and course material are not covered.

Global Understanding core credit can be fulfilled by this semester program when students participate in the pre- and post-departure New Perspectives course. Visit the GEO for details or go to the GEO Global Understanding webpage.

APPLICATION:
All Gordon students applying to study Spanish abroad with CIEE must first submit an online seat application (link available to Gordon students only) to participate in a Global Education program. Only after you have been approved by the Global Education Office for study abroad, may you proceed with CIEE's online application. (Please note that CIEE's application deadlines vary.  Please check their site.)

  • Seat applications for the fall semester must be submitted online by March 15. Interviews with the Global Education Office must be conducted by by the same date.
  • Seat applicationsfor spring semester must be submitted online by September 30 for all programs except Spain which needs (as of FALL 2010) to be submitted by September 15. Interviews with the Global Education Office must be conducted by by the same date.

Apply to participate in Global Education Programs with the Online Seat Application (link available to Gordon students only). After being approved for participation you may submit CIEE's application. Following a thorough discussion with their advisor, students should apply directly to the selected CIEE program to apply.
