NOVEMBERThompson Chamber Music Series Pacifica Quartet
Date and time: November 6; 8 p.m.
Location: Phillips Recital Hall
Recognized for its virtuosity, exuberant performance style and often daring repertory choices, the Pacifica Quartet has carved out a compelling musical path. Members of the quartet are recipients of the 2009 Grammy Award Best Chamber Music Performance for their recording of Elliott Carter’s
String Quartets Nos. 1 and 5.

A Community of SongDate and time: November 15; 4 p.m.

The greater North Shore community is invited to join the choirs of Gordon College in an afternoon of song. Audience and performers alike join in singing and celebrating choral music from many diverse traditions.
Fall ShortsDates and times: November 17–19; 7 p.m.
Location: Margaret Jensen Theatre, Barrington Center for the Arts
Nine short plays prepared by nine student directors with a cast and crew of over 50 students for three nights only—for the love of theatre.
Jazz Ensemble ConcertDate and time: November 19; 8 p.m.
Location: Phillips Recital Hall
The Coy Pond Piranhas warm up the winter with their second concert of the year. Don’t miss an evening filled with jazz in a variety of styles: big band, bebop, Latin and fusion.

The Gordon Symphonic Band under the direction of Dr. David Rox celebrates the rich heritage of Thanksgiving.

DECEMBERChristmas at GordonDate and time: December 4; 8 p.m.

The North Shore’s most popular Christmas celebration continues this year with an evening of music featuring the Gordon College Choir, Chamber Singers, select ensembles and guest artists. Check online for more information.

Community Carol SingDate and time: December 5; 3 p.m.

Ring in the Christmas spirit! Join in singing favorite carols and songs, professionally led and accompanied by members of the Department of Music. Come and enjoy this family-oriented afternoon and stay for our annual Christmas Gala.

Celebrate the Christmas season with the Department of Music. Our annual celebration features many Gordon ensembles including the Wind Ensemble, College Choir, Children’s Choir, Women’s Choir and more.

Enjoy a collaborative faculty/alumni exhibition of work by artists, poets, an actor, a priest, a composer, a philosopher, and a linguist.
An Evening of Opera
Dates and Times: January 22, 7:30 p.m.; January 24, 3 p.m.
Location: MacDonald Auditorium, Ken Olsen Science Center
Gordon music students, under the direction of Ron Luchsinger and the musical direction of Michael Monroe, present a staged production of Mozart’s The Magic Flute, Act I, and Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel, Act III.

I Don't Know, I Just Don't Know
Dates and Times: January 29 and February 5, 8 p.m.; January 30 and February 6, 4:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.; February 2–4, 7:30 p.m.

Be sure to see this comedy, created by the cast as a response to our human uncertainty—certain to be hilarious. Directed by Norman Jones.

Tangible Dreams for a Dying Explorer
Dates and Times: February 8–April 2; Monday–Saturday; 9 a.m.–7 p.m.

A collaborative exhibition of paintings and photographs by Bradford Johnson and C. E. Courtney. Light refreshments will be served at the reception.
Jazz Ensemble: Spring Concert
Date and Time: February 18; 8 p.m.
Location: Phillips Recital Hall
The Gordon Jazz Ensemble—The Coy Pond Piranhas—will present an evening filled with the sounds of classic big-band jazz. Student vocalists will be featured in several traditional tunes.

Thompson Chamber Music Series
Marina Piccinini, Flute
Date and Time: February 19; 8 p.m.
Location: Phillips Recital Hall
Widely recognized as one of the world’s leading flute virtuosos, flutist Marina Piccinini combines flawless technical command, profound interpretive instincts, and a charismatic stage presence—qualities which make each of her performances a memorable event.

Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band
Date and Time: February 20; 7 p.m.
Location: A. J. Gordon Memorial Chapel
Under the direction of Gordon’s own David Rox, the Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band present their annual winter concert. Be sure to come and enjoy a memorable evening of classics from the wind band repertoire.

The Gordon Symphony Orchestra
Date and Time: February 27; 7:30 p.m.
Location: A. J. Gordon Memorial Chapel
The Gordon Symphony Orchestra continues its season of fantastic guest conductors as they welcome alumnus Michael Ingram ’08. A graduate student at the University of Maryland School of Music, Michael is music director of the U.M. Repertoire Orchestra and also conducts and coaches for the U.M. Symphony Orchestra, the Maryland Opera Studio, and the Bach Cantata Series.

MARCHAdams Piano Recital Foundation Series Joseph Kalichstein, Piano
Date and Time: March 27; 8 p.m.
Location: Phillips Recital Hall
Acclaimed for the heartfelt intensity and technical mastery of his playing, pianist Joseph Kalichstein enthralls audiences throughout the United States and Europe, winning equal praise as orchestral soloist, recitalist, and chamber musician.

In the final Thompson Chamber Music Series concert of the spring, Gordon faculty members Mia Chung and Alina Polyakov present an enthralling evening of music for two pianos. An annual treat you won’t want to miss.
