Health & Safety

Whether you're studying abroad with Gordon College, participating in a Global Internship or a Missions Trip, there are things you need to know about preparation, international health insurance through Gordon, general health information and much more. 

The following resources will help acquaint you with some of the things you need to know, and some of the work that you need to do to get ready for your international study or work. If you have questions after reviewing this information, please contact the Global Education Office.

Study Abroad Student Emergency Protocol

  • Assess the situation, removing yourself from the area if necessary
  • Call your program director to report on the situation and request support
  • With your program director, contact local authorities and/or a Medical Professional
  • Utilize CISI’s emergency portal for translation services, medical referrals, evacuation, claim services, etc.

  • Call GEO at (978) 867-4399. If the office is closed, select voicemail option 3 for the emergency line, follow the prompts, and speak clearly to explain your situation and what support is necessary. 
  • The GEO will contact your emergency contacts.
  • After the emergency has been resolved/addressed, the GEO will follow up with you to compile a report of the incident.
  • When you arrive back in the US meet with necessary health and mental health professionals for follow-up (for some it will be necessary to do follow-up in their host country and in the US).

Sexual Assault Support

Should you be assaulted while abroad, please contact the GEO here at Gordon as well as your on-the-ground program director. We in the GEO want to advocate for you and assist you in responding to this difficult situation, but will likely not find out about it unless you contact us directly. Please call GEO at (978) 867-4399. If the office is closed, select voicemail option 3 and you will be connected with Gordon's 24/7 emergency operator, who will put you in touch with the GEO staff.
