THT291: An Introduction to the British Stage

Program Dates: August 2–18, 2013

Through this 4-credit international seminar, students can see the world's best plays and musicals and learn how these productions are made from page to stage. To prepare for the trip, students will read short essays by some of the most significant playwrights, directors, actors, and designers. Those readings will guide our viewing of at least twelve memorable performances in London and Edinburgh—a number of which will be world premieres, and a Shakespeare production at Shakespeare's Globe on the River Thames.

CREDITS

COR291: An Introduction to the British Stage is 4-credits and fulfills Gordon College's Aesthetic Sensibilities and Practice Thematic Core (Fine Arts under the old core).

Students may also design a 2-credit guided study to be undertaken in conjunction with the basic course (at an additional tuition charge of $700). Contact Prof. Norm Jones  for information.

N.B. Global Understanding core credit is NOT available for this seminar.

COURSE

Registration for international seminars is handled by the GEO. After accepted students have paid their deposit to the GEO, the GEO will send a list of the seminar participants to the Registrar’s office.

WHO MAY APPLY?

This course is open to students from ALL majors. Basically, if you have an interest in love, treachery, conflict, and commitment, this course is for you. APPLICATION

Applications will be considered for acceptance in the order received.

• Submit application by MARCH 15 deadline
• Submit a non-refundable $30 application fee to the Global Education Office

Upon acceptance to the program a $450 non-refundable program deposit is due by April 5.

COST

The total cost is estimated at $3969* and includes:

• Tuition
• Round trip airfare from Boston
• Ground transportation between London and Edinburgh
• Meal stipend sufficient to buy groceries for three meals a day
• Accommodations
• Admission to at least 12 plays
• Two backstage tours and admission to museums and historic sites
• Course materials
