Mark Noll Speaks at Gordon; Third Talk In Richard F. Gross Distinguished Lecture Series

Luther at the Diet of Worms

Mark Noll, Francis A. McAnaney Professor of History at the University of Notre Dame, was the third speaker in the Richard F. Gross Distinguished Lecture Series—a series named for Gordon’s sixth president. Noll’s address, “The Chaotic Coherence of Sola Scriptura,” tackled one of the most distinctive tenets of Protestantism during its nearly 500-year history.

Noll’s recent books include Protestantism—A Very Short Introduction (Oxford University Press, 2011); The New Shape of World Christianity: How American Experience Reflects Global Faith(InterVarsity Press, 2009); and God and Race in American Politics: A Short History (Princeton University Press, 2008). He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences; in 2006 he received the National Endowment for the Humanities medal at a White House ceremony.
