Symposium On Youth Ministry 2013

"Teenagers Matter: Making Student Ministry A Priority in the Church"

2013 Gordon College Symposium on Youth Ministry
Gordon College, Wenham, MA

Guest Speaker: Dr. Mark Cannister

Mark CannisterYou're invited to join us for the 2013 Gordon College Symposium on Youth Ministry. We'll be gathering the youth ministry community of New England on Thursday, November 7. Our guest speaker is Gordon faculty member and author Dr. Mark Cannister. Author of the newly released book, "Teenagers Matter: Making Student Ministry a Priority in the Church." Our topic reflects the heartbeat of Mark's ministry and passion.

Teenagers matter! When teenagers are valued, they bring life to nearly every sector of society, including the church. Although student ministry has come a long way in the last century, few churches have made it priority.

In his new book, Teenagers Matter: Making Student Ministry a Priority in the Church, veteran practitioner and professor Mark Cannister brings together the latest ideas and research on adolescence to champion student ministry as integral to the life of the church. At this year's Symposium he will be casting a vision for a church that truly values its young people and developing a student ministry that connects teenagers to the church's larger intergenerational community to enrich the entire congregation.

Cannister's comprehensive assessment of student ministry has been field tested and created in a close consultation with youth pastors in the trenches. At the Symposium Mark will outline the resources necessary for a vital student ministry and share new insights into faith formation that will help students thrive in their faith after graduating as they move into young adulthood.

The symposium will take place in the MacDonald Auditorium of Gordon College's Ken Olsen Science Center, located on the Gordon College campus (255 Grapevine Road in Wenham, MA). Reserved parking will be available for participants in the A. J. Gordon Chapel parking lot. The doors will open at 8:15 a.m. for registration check-in and a light continental breakfast. The symposium will begin promptly at 9 a.m. A complementary lunch will be served and the symposium will conclude at 3 p.m..
