Donor-advised Funds

What is a Donor-Advised Fund?

A donor-advised fund (DAF) is a charitable giving vehicle sponsored by a public charity. Giving through a DAF is one of the most popular ways to support your favorite charities. As a giving vehicle, it combines optimum flexibility with favorable tax benefits to simplify your charitable giving.

How does a DAF work?

When you make a contribution to the DAF you will be eligible for an immediate tax deduction from the organization sponsoring the fund. Over time you can advise the organization on how to grant money to your favorite charities and nonprofits, such as Gordon College.

What are the benefits of a DAF?

There are many benefits to giving through a DAF:

  • Contributions are tax deductible. You will be eligible for an immediate tax deduction from the sponsoring organization.
  • While you are deciding which charities to support your donation will grow tax-free, increasing the amount of money you can give to charities.
  • The DAF sponsor handles all record-keeping, simplifying paperwork for you.
  • You will eliminate capital gains taxes when you donate long-term appreciated securities to the DAF sponsor.
  • A DAF is an excellent way to create a family legacy of philanthropy.
  • If you so choose, you may remain anonymous to the grant recipient.
