H.M.S. PINAFORE
January 27–28, 2012
A. J. Gordon Memorial Chapel
Following the success of last January’s The Pirates of Penzance, the Gordon College Music and Theatre Departments joined forces again to present another Gilbert and Sullivan classic, H.M.S. Pinafore.
This operetta both pokes fun at the grand opera tradition and delights in having a stage filled with singing sailors, cousins, sisters, and aunts. The story features two ardent young lovers, a ship’s captain who’s “hardly ever” sick at sea, a Lord of the Navy who hardly ever sees the sea, and a couple of other mysterious characters who keep the plot twisting zanily till the end. Jeff Miller, chair of the Theatre Department, directs, and Michael Monroe of the Music Department leads a full orchestra in two performances.
