Peer Connect Program

Social connection is essential to our health and wellness.
People who feel more connected to others have lower rates of anxiety and depression, have higher self-esteem, are more empathic to others, more trusting and cooperative and, therefore, others are more open to trusting and cooperating with them. Social connectedness generates social, emotional and physical well-being.

The Peer Connect Program aims to increase social connection by way of Peer to Peer Mentor-Mentee relationships.


What is a Student Mentee?

  • A student who has identified specific personal goal(s) and believes that the guidance and help of a Peer Mentor can help achieve those goal(s).

As a Student Mentee:

  • You are matched with a trained Peer Mentor
  • You'll participate in a semester of 1:1 weekly meetings
  • You'll receive support, skill-building tools, and information about campus resources

Reasons to connect with a Peer Mentor:

  • New to campus (transfer student, first-year/first semester)
  • International Student or First-Generation College Student
  • Challenges to adjusting to the college environment 
  • Challenges with making connections on campus
  • Difficulty in classes
  • Feeling home-sick
  • Would like to deepen your sense of belonging
  • Would like help identifying and working toward goals

Eligibility Requirements:

  • You must live on campus 
  • Agree to a good faith effort to the following:
    • Keep clear channels of communication open with your Peer Mentor
    • Be available for meetings with your Peer Mentor

What is a Peer Mentor? 

  • A knowledgeable and experienced guide
  • A trusted ally and advocate 
  • A caring role model

As a member of the Peer Mentor Team, you'll build supportive connections with students through 1:1 pairings. 

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a sophomore, junior or senior
  • No disciplinary issues/probation
  • Possess and demonstrate social-emotional and spiritual maturity
  • Minimum GPA of 2.5
  • Be willing to make a commitment for the entire academic year

Peer Mentor Candidates will be required to meet with the Peer Connect Coordinator for a brief interview to ensure that qualifications and experience match program objectives. Once selected, Peer Mentors are required to attend training sessions or review pre-recorded training modules prior to being paired with Student Mentees.
