M.A.T. Reading, Gordon College
B.A., Gordon College
Jaclyn is currently in her 4th year as a literacy coach in the North Andover Public School district here in Massachusetts. Jaclyn is fortunate to be able to work with both students and teachers throughout her day. Her mornings are spent leading reading intervention groups with K-2 students, while her afternoons are spent supporting K-5 teachers across 5 elementary schools as they implement their literacy curriculum. On any given day you may find her facilitating team level collaboration meetings, demonstrating lessons in a classroom, or leading professional development seminars. Once a week this semester, she has been blessed to be able to join her old Gordon family as an adjunct professor in the education department.
Prior to working in North Andover, Jaclyn was a 3rd grade teacher at Penn Brook Elementary School in Georgetown, MA for 7 years. While there, she had the opportunity to mentor new staff members, write grants that helped the school acquire updated technology, and participate in committees for curriculum planning. The skills and confidence she has been able to bring to her various school districts have their roots in her Gordon education.
Jaclyn is so grateful that she was able to get her education from Gordon. The education department prepared her for the intricacies of being a skilled teacher, while the psychology department helped her to better understand human development and see how it applied to her work in the field. Through Gordon's graduate education program, she was able to earn her license in reading, ESL, and special needs, which has opened many doors for Jaclyn's career.
The education department is filled with quality professors who truly care about their students and Jaclyn considers herself lucky to have had the chance to learn from them.
