Post Baccalaureate Initial License In Music

Becoming a licensed music educator

ARE YOU...

  • Currently teaching another discipline, but realize you want to make a difference by becoming a licensed music educator?

  • Not certain what it will take to become a licensed music teacher or if it's even possible, since your bachelor's degree was not in music education?

  • Currently teaching music in a private or public setting, and wish to become licensed in music education by the Commonwealth of Mass in order to broaden teaching opportunities?

WE INVITE YOU TO CONSIDER A GRADUATE MUSIC EDUCATION AT GORDON COLLEGE

The Post Baccalaureate Initial License in Music Education program is designed for students who have completed a baccalaureate degree in a liberal arts field other than music education and do not yet hold the Initial License in music education from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Convenient Schedule for Working Professionals
With an intensive summer component including some portions of courses that are delivered online, and on campus, and some evening classes during the academic year, the program is meant to meet the needs of working professionals, career changers and current educators.

Receive Close Personal Attention
Dr. Sandra Doneski, Director of Graduate Studies in Music at Gordon, guides you every step of the way. At the beginning of your application process, she will work closely with you to determine what the best teacher licenses, certifications and degree options will be for you to earn based on your background and interests.  From start to finish she'll provide you with a roadmap for class selections and advise you throughout your practicum for licensure.

Affordable Tuition with No Hidden Costs
The cost of the Initial License in Music Program is simply $395 per credit. Courses in the Initial License program vary between 1–3 credits. The total number of credits required to complete the program vary according to a detailed undergraduate transcript review. There are only 2 fees:

1.  $50 one-time nonrefundable application fee.
2.  $50 administrative fee for each term courses are taken.

Make Music Everyday
Demonstrated musicianship is an integral part of the curriculum. Students are required to sing, play and conduct with each other in summer term lab ensembles, providing opportunities to develop techniques that can be applied immediately in the classroom.

Teach with Confidence and Flexibility in a Challenging Marketplace for Music Educators
Gordon's music educator preparation programs are highly regarded consistently by cooperating teachers, music educators, and fine arts directors throughout the Commonwealth.  The Initial License in Music program was newly accredited by the State Department of Elementary and Secondary Education this past April, 2011.
