Annual High School Honors Band

On Saturday February 25, 2023, Gordon College’s Department of Music will be hosting its first ever Annual High School Honors Band.  Your students will have the opportunity to work with our new band director, Dr. Gabe Southard, an esteemed music professor on Gordon’s beautiful campus. In the evening, students will present a shared concert with the Gordon College Symphonic Band, including a combined work by Frank Ticheli – Angels in the Architecture. Other anticipated repertoire for the weekend include works by Wagner, Whitacre and Shostakovich. 

Gordon’s first High School Honors band will provide a day-long immersive musical experience for any and all dedicated musicians who might desire additional learning opportunities. Dr. Gabe Southard has held successful honors bands in Michigan for 15 years. His impact on over 1,000 students in that time has been immense, and we are thrilled to be able to offer such an experience to Massachusetts band students in 2023.

All students participating in this High School Honors Band will have been nominated by band directors and private teachers. In lieu of chair placements, we are asking that you briefly assess your student’s playing ability in your response below. You may nominate multiple students.
