Join The Elevate Team

At Elevate, we aim to provide an experience that is as much of a learning opportunity for the high school student participants as it is for the Gordon student staff. The program provides an opportunity to:

  • Learn and implement asset-based community development
  • Explore your own strengths on a team
  • Build incredible friendships with students from across the globe (and from across Gordon’s campus!)

Elevate staff members are chosen based on their fit for the program and the program's fit with the applicant's personal goals. Staff members are required to be on Gordon College's campus for:

  • Staff training (July 2–5)
  • Week of Elevate (July 6–12, 2020)

Gordon students can apply to be Support Staff, Peer Mentor, or let us know that you are open to either. Please read the job descriptions below.

Peer Mentor

Peer mentors are responsible for facilitating and mentoring a group of 10–12 high school juniors and seniors as they conduct research and work collaboratively to solve a real-world problem. Peer mentors will also support team-building exercises on the La Vida ropes course, facilitate discussion, and proactively identify student strengths. A strong peer mentor candidate is passionate about problem-solving and empowering students to learn to build solutions from the inside out. one who possesses exceptional interpersonal skills, works well with groups, ideally is familiar with the Strengths Quest assessment, has experience conducting research, and is in good academic standing at Gordon. A strong candidate is able to facilitate students from diverse backgrounds and experiences, mediate conflicts if they should arise, and demonstrate great responsibility.

Dates of commitment:

  • Staff Training: Thursday, July 2–Sunday, July 5, 2020
  • Elevate: Monday, July 6–Saturday, July 12, 2020

On-Campus housing provided.

Compensation: $750 + Room and Board


Support Staff

Support Staff members are the backbone of the leadership program. These staff facilitate transportation to and from the airport, check-in and check-out, setup and tear down for events, organize social activities for student groups, and work under tight deadlines. Support Staff members are paired with two Peer Mentors to relieve them and take charge of the group in the evening and afternoon activities. An exceptional Support Staff candidate will be a self-starter who works well independently as well as on a team. This individual possesses a strong work ethic, strong organizational skills, and an ability to improvise and make wise decisions.

Dates of commitment:

  • Staff Training: Thursday, July 2–Sunday, July 5, 2020
  • Elevate: Monday, July 6–Saturday, July 12, 2020

On-Campus housing provided.

Compensation: $750 + Room and Board


Head of Peer Mentors

The Head of Peer Mentors serves on the core team, assisting the Director in training, supporting, and equipping the peer mentors as they coach a group of high school students. The Head of Peer Mentors is able to embody the values of Elevate and invest in the personal growth of the peer mentors and team dynamics of their peer groups. She/he seeks to give back from their own peer mentor experience, has experience in teaching and facilitation, has demonstrated exceptional maturity and awareness of others, is an excellent team player. An exceptional Head of Peer Mentors candidate is able to facilitate peer mentors and students from diverse backgrounds and experiences, mediate conflicts if they should arise, and demonstrate great responsibility.  

*Must have prior experience as a Peer Mentor

Dates of Commitment:

  • Hourly Work: Monday, May 18, 2020–Wednesday, July 1, 2020
  • Staff Training: Thursday, July 2–Sunday, July 5, 2020
  • Elevate: Monday, July 6–Saturday, July 12, 2020

Pay Rate: $12/hour, 5 hrs/week until Elevate begins (irregular weeks due to summer schedule), then assumes staff wage of Peer Mentor ($750 + Room and Board)


Head of Support Staff

The Head of Support Staff serves on the core team, assisting the Director in coordinating an efficient, hospitable, and detail-oriented support staff team. The Head of Support Staff is able to embody the values of Elevate and invest in the personal growth and team dynamics of the support staff. She/he must be an excellent team player, have a strong attention to detail, strong ability to delegate, ability to self-start and initiate tasks with minimal supervision, and excellent customer service experience to interact with parents of students. An exceptional Head of Support Staff candidate is one who seeks to give back from their own support staff experience, possesses a strong work ethic, strong organizational skills, and an ability to improvise and make wise decisions.
