Professor Johnson joined the Gordon faculty in 1998. His primary research and teaching interests are in critical social theory and cultural sociology, although he also enjoys teaching statistics to the math-phobic. Some of his current research projects focus on the relationship between the experiences of meaning and hoping, and on the effects of communal experiences of hope in transforming violent conflict. He received the Distinguished Junior Faculty Award in 2003.
