Contemporary Music Center

VISION

BestSemester's interdisciplinary Contemporary Music Center in Nashville provides a community where young musicians and aspiring music executives can learn the ins and outs of a career in popular music. Designed as an artistic community, the program develops artists and music executives with a Christ-centered vision for music content, production, and delivery. The mission of the CMC is to prepare students academically and creatively for potential careers in the music industry. Finish the semester with:

  • Original recordings
  • Press kit and resume
  • Knowledge of how to get a recording contract or a job in the music industry

QUALIFICATIONS

CMC is an interdisciplinary program and encourages students of various majors with interests in music and the music business to apply. To be eligible students must:

  • Have a sophomore standing at time of application
  • Have a minimum GPA of 2.75
  • Demonstrate an ability to succeed in the business or creative dimension of the music industry

CREDITS

You will take three core courses with all participants of the program, and then choose an artist track or executive track, depending on your interests. Both tracks allow for a full 16-credit semester.

Artist Track:

  • Essentials of Songwriting (3)

  • Performance (3)

Business Track:

  • Music Business Survey (3)
  • Advanced Media Marketing (3)

Technical Track:

  • Advanced Studio Recording (3)
  • Audio Engineering (3)
  • Concert Production (3)

Please note that this domestic program does not fulfill Global Understanding Core.

COSTS

The cost is generally equal to a semester at Gordon and includes:

  • Tuition for 15-16 hours of credit
  • Room with kitchen facilities
  • Laundry facilities
  • Community meals (approx. one each week)
  • Travel, meals and accommodation for practicum (tour)
  • 24/7 use of rehearsal and recording facilities

Additional anticipated expenses:

  • Travel to and from the program
  • Board** (approx. $80 per week)
  • Security deposit (refundable; collected upon arrival)
  • Personal medical expenses, if incurred
  • Personal discretionary expenses

**Please note that board is NOT included by BestSemester and you will not be billed for board by Gordon.

 APPLICATION PROCEDURE & DEADLINES

All Gordon students applying to a BestSemester program must first submit an online seat application to the Global Education Office before applying to your program. Click here for current deadlines.

After you've been approved by the Global Education Office proceed with the BestSemester application. BestSemester has a rolling admission policy. Spring applications are accepted until November 1. Fall applications are accepted until May 1.
