Friday, March 24 — Contemporary art focus
7:00 – 11:30 Drive to NYC
11:30 – 1:00 Eat lunch and meet with the director of Art21
1:00 – 4:00 Visit the Whitney Biennial at the Whitney Museum of American Art
4:00 – 5:00 Meet with a curator at White Columns (the oldest non-profit art space in New York)
5:00 – 6:00 Meet with a gallery director at one of the top galleries in Chelsea
6:00 – 8:00 Dinner
8:00 – 10:00 Enjoy a performance art show at The Kitchen

Saturday, March 25 — Modern art focus
9:00 – 10:00 Studio visit with a NYC-based artist
10:00 – 2:00 Visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Met Breuer
2:00 – 3:00 Meet with gallery directors at Gitterman Gallery and Tibor de Nagy Gallery
3:00 – 6:00 Visit the Museum of Modern Art
6:00 – 7:30 Dinner and studio visit
7:30 – 12:00 Free time (go see a film at Lincoln Center or a dance at Juilliard!)

Sunday, March 26 — Medieval and liturgical art focus
9:00 – 11:00 Worship together at a church in Manhattan
11:00 – 12:00 Lunch / studio visit with NYC-based artist
12:00 – 2:00 Visit the Met Cloisters (medieval art and architecture in the form of a monastery)
2:00 – 6:00 Drive back to Gordon

Trip Details
March 24-26, 2017
Depart from Gordon at 7:00 am on Friday, March 24
Return to Gordon by 6:00 pm on Sunday, March 26
Cost: $50
Open to art majors and minors only

We will drive to NYC in Gordon-owned vans, which will be driven by Peter Morse (manager of Barrington), professor David West, and professor Jim Zingarelli. Students will be accompanied by faculty chaperones during all of our museum visits throughout the weekend. The Art Dept. will cover the cost of the transportation and parking.

We will be staying at the West Side YMCA in Manhattan. Each room accommodates two people (in a bunk bed); please submit your roommate request in the form below. If you don't have a roommate, we can assign one to you. The Art Dept. will cover the full cost of the lodging.

The cost to reserve a spot on the trip is only $50 per student. This must be paid in advance (by Feb. 4th) with cash or check payable to Gordon College, handed to Peter Morse or David West. This $50 fee covers all of your museum admissions and allows us to book group rates ahead of time.

(Students will also be expected to pay for their own food while in the city. We estimate that food will cost as little as $50 per person for the three days - of course you can spend more on meals, if you want.)

Students are required to stay at the West Side YMCA both Friday and Saturday night. There are absolutely no exceptions to this policy. Students must come to New York with us in the Gordon-owned vans on Friday morning and return with us on Sunday afternoon - no exceptions or alternate travel arrangements are allowed. On Friday night and Saturday night after dinner, students are welcome to make their own dinner / evening plans, but they must return to the West Side YMCA to sleep.
