WENHAM, MA—After 17 years reporting for television news, most recently at ABC News where she covered religion, culture and education for “World News Tonight with Peter Jennings,” Jody Hassett-Sanchez has turned her skills toward issues of justice and culture. Now the president of Pointy Shoe Productions, a documentary film and long-form television production company, Hassett-Sanchez has made a documentary film exposing human trafficking around the world.

Hassett-Sanchez’s film “SOLD: Fighting the New Global Slave Trade,” is the basis for her lecture at Gordon College, Thursday, September 9 at 4:00 p.m. in the Ken Olsen Science Center (255 Grapevine Road, Exit 17 from Route 128).  A discussion time with the audience will follow and the next morning Friday, September 10 at 10:25 a.m., she will give a talk in the A.J. Gordon Memorial Chapel entitled, “Telling Stories and Seeking Justice: Making Films that Make a Difference.” The events are free and open to the public.

Prior to her reporting work at ABC News, Hassett-Sanchez traveled the globe with CNN for almost 12 years. As the State Department producer covering Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, she reported from Mongolia one week and a refugee camp in Macedonia the next. Hassett-Sanchez was also a senior producer of CNN’s 24-part series that looked at the legacy of the Cold War.

“Jody’s faith and work combine a passion for beauty and justice. She brings together her expertise in journalism, visual storytelling, and concern for the least among us in her documentary ‘SOLD’,” says Dan Russ, director of the Center for Christian Studies and academic dean at Gordon College. “In doing so, she has raised the awareness of the destructive and dehumanizing sex slavery that is growing throughout the world. She serves both the church and the larger world in her work.”
