Gordon Welcomes Eight New Professors to the Faculty

WENHAM, MA—Coming from Indonesia, England, and across the U.S., Gordon College’s eight new professors represent a range of diverse backgrounds and scholarship, and join a nationally recognized faculty who have trained at some of the best schools in the world including Princeton, Juilliard, Harvard, Oxford, Stanford, Duke and more. Teaching in one of 38 majors, Gordon’s current 93 faculty members represent six continents, and 80 have earned their doctorate or terminal degree.

“Like all of our faculty, our new professors are innovative and creative scholars in their fields,” said Provost Janel Curry. “We are very excited to welcome them to campus and have them be a part of our community. I know our students will benefit greatly from their expertise and faith commitment.”

The new professors include the following:

Associate Professor of Education Ellen Ballock previously served as an assistant professor in Towson University’s elementary education department and as a teacher at the North Jakarta International School in Indonesia. She earned her doctorate from Pennsylvania State University and her bachelor’s from Florida State University, where she was a National Merit Scholar.

Gordon graduate Kristen Cooper (’06) will join the Department of Economics and Business as an assistant professor. She just completed her Ph.D. in applied economics and management at Cornell, and will fill the micro-economist position in the department.

After serving in a part-time capacity at the College last year, Jamie Hillman joins the full-time faculty in a three-year appointment as an assistant professor of music. Jamie conducts the Men’s Choir and teaches courses for both the undergraduate and graduate programs. He is completing his doctorate in Conducting at Boston University. 

Michael Jacobs will join the Department of Political Science on a one-year appointment as an assistant professor. Michael recently completed his doctorate in international relations and comparative politics from the University of Nevada, Reno. He also holds degrees from the University of Georgia and Presbyterian College.

Todd Morano joins the Department of Education as an associate professor. With more than ten years of experience in middle school education, Todd has served as an associate professor at Azusa Pacific University and Point Loma Nazarene University. Todd earned his doctorate from Alliant International University in California, and his specialty is in English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction.

Michael Paul will join the physics department on a two-year appointment as an assistant professor. Michael has held a number of teaching and research positions, and holds two Ph.D.’s, one in physics in the field of materials and surface science from the University of Bristol, UK, and one in theoretical solid-state chemistry from the Royal Institution of Great Britain, London, UK.

With a doctorate from Stanford University and a wide range of experience in both the business world and higher education, Doug Puffert will join the faculty as an associate professor of Economics and Business. Previously, Doug was on the faculty at The King’s College in New York City since 2007 and will fill the macro-economics position within the department.

LeQuez Spearman joins the Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies in a two-year position as an assistant professor. LeQuez recently earned his Ph.D. in kinesiology and sport studies from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and holds degrees from the University of Iowa and the University of Wisconsin, Whitewater.
