Barrington Center for the Arts Showcases Allison Luce’s “Ancient Expanse”

WENHAM, MA—The beauty and mystery of the coast of Denmark will be on display in Gordon College’s Gallery this fall. After spending time in Denmark as a resident artist at the International Ceramic Research Center, artist Allison Luce created a site-specific installation entitled Ancient Expanse. These sculptures and prints are meant to reflect the coastline along the southwestern coast of Zealand, Denmark, as the work was created in this natural site.

Gordon College’s Barrington Center for the Arts (BCA) is exhibiting Luce’s work from August 27 until October 7. Luce will also be giving a lecture on Friday, October 7, 4–5 p.m. The closing reception for Luce’s Ancient Expanse exhibit will also occur on Friday, October 7, 5–7 p.m. at the Barrington Center for Arts on campus.

“These pieces explore the boundaries between the real and un-real, natural and man-made, and time and space,” says Luce. “The photographs document a fleeting moment in time where the natural and unnatural meet and interact and serve as a metaphor for the ephemeral nature of life.”

The BCA Gallery is a modern and spacious art gallery. Both the large and small galleries are open for public viewing during exhibition dates, Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. All exhibitions are open to the public and admission is free.

“I am thrilled to exhibit my work at Gordon College,” Luce said. “It is a great opportunity to share this site-specific work with a larger audience, and to give others a chance to experience the beauty of the coast of Denmark through my work.”
