WENHAM, MA—In commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, David Goss, assistant professor of history at Gordon College and director of the Institute for Public History, will present an illustrated lecture of Salem’s involvement with the Civil War.
The lecture is part of a series entitled Derby Square Lecture Series, and Goss will trace the decisions, circumstances and situations that captured the Greater Boston area during the Civil War. It will take place on Thursday, February 17, at 7:30 p.m. in Old Town Hall, located at 32 Derby Square, Salem, Massachusetts.
“These lectures explore relevant topics and bring world-class thinkers to the community,” said Dr. Cliff Hersey, director of global education at Gordon College, which oversees the Institute for Public History. “Exploring Salem during the Civil War era is an exciting way to build dialogue around the city’s rich history.
As an expert in the areas of American history and museum studies, Goss has much to contribute to the dialogue. His many published works include Cornerstones of Salem (2000), Treasures of a Seaport Town (1998), and The Salem Witch Trials, A Reference Guide (2008). In addition, Goss works as the director of the museum and historical studies at the Gordon College Institute for public History, where he coordinates the efforts of the Salem Pioneer Village: Salem in 1630.
