Waypoint provides adventure education opportunities for youth and adults with disabilities. Waypoint’s mission is to challenge people with disabilities to discover their purpose, talents and strengths through the transforming power of adventure. The goal of each Waypoint program is to move individuals and groups out of their comfort zone and into their challenge zone – where learning really happens.
The WILD Semester partnership with Waypoint allows us to join them in serving the community and also gives our students practical opportunities to put their learning into practice during the semester. Waypoint also provides great opportunities for volunteer work and internships
The W.I.L.D. Semester has a natural partnership with Gordon’s own La Vida Center for Outdoor Education and Leadership. Every Gordon student participates in a La Vida experience as part of their orientation. This means there are plenty of opportunities for internships and outdoor jobs within our college community. Students can serve as a Sherpa (wilderness trip leader) in the Adirondacks, work on campus facilitating Adventure Pursuits or as a camp counselor with Adventure Camp.
La Vida’s mission is to provide a supportive experiential environment that encourages participants to explore the meaning of their relationship with Jesus Christ and foster a deeper personal commitment to Him. La Vida provides youth and their leaders with challenging, small-group, wilderness adventures, facilitated by trained and qualified staff, all through which God’s Word can be heard, experienced, and integrated into daily life.
Moose River Outpost
Moose River Outpost is a Summer Camp ministry for 11-17 year-olds that takes place in the midst of breathtaking adventure experiences in the woods of Northern Maine. Everything we do is centered around helping our campers develop a deeper relationship with their Creator while enjoying His world to the fullest. Our counselors are experienced in outdoor leadership, but first and foremost they are role models: Men and women committed to God and his plan. We adventure together as a community. We learn together as friends, and we grow together as God’s children. MRO is leading life-changing trips, instructing in cutting-edge outdoor activities, and raising up a generation of Christian leaders.
Each September, the students from Gordon’s WILD program visit MRO for an ACA Swift Water Rescue clinic as well as white water rafting the famous Kennebec river. Students even try their hand at guiding rafts as part of the experience. This relationship has also created opportunities for summer internships and jobs at MRO.
