Congratulations on your acceptance to Gordon College and the Summer ELL Program! The Gordon College Summer ELL Program will prepare you for academic success as a college student at Gordon College by allowing you to engage in intensive and exclusive study of the English language this summer, before you begin your fall semester college-level classes. The Gordon College Summer ELL Program will also help you get settled at your new college “home,” by offering you opportunities for Christian community and fun activities—both on campus and around the Boston area. Classes will run for eight weeks, from Monday June 23 through Friday August 15, 2014. We look forward to welcoming you on campus soon for a fun and productive summer at Gordon College!
Please plan to arrive on either Saturday June 21 or Sunday June 22, the Summer English Program move-in days. A Gordon College driver will pick you up from Boston Logan International Airport for free and bring you to your dorm room on campus.
Classes will begin on Monday June 23 at 9:15 a.m. at Gordon College. The program will run for eight weeks, with classes daily Monday through Friday. Students will have free time on the weekends. Friday July 4 is a national holiday, and no classes will be held that day. Classes will conclude on Friday August 15 at 12:10 p.m.
Students will have a short vacation break from Saturday August 16 through Wednesday August 20, between the end of the Summer ELL Program and the start of International Student Orientation.
The Admissions Committee of Gordon College determines which incoming Gordon College students will be invited and required to participate in the Summer ELL Program. The Gordon College Summer ELL Program is designed for incoming freshmen, incoming transfer students, and incoming “Science Without Borders” (BSMP) students from Brazil. To apply to Gordon College, please visit Admissions.
Students in the Gordon College Summer ELL Program are Gordon College students, who will go on to enroll in the fall semester as full-time students in Gordon’s rigorous college-level academic program. Typical students in the Summer ELL Program will enter with TOEFL iBT scores between 70 and 84, with the goal of increasing their scores to a minimum of 85 by the start of fall semester college-level classes.
In the Gordon College Summer ELL Program, students will be part of a small class where they will receive personalized instruction from an ASC English teacher (12:1 student-teacher ratio or smaller). ASC English is an ESL Partner of Gordon College. The academic program focuses on three areas of study: (1) Reading, Writing, and Grammar, (2) Listening, Speaking, and Pronunciation, and (3) Skills Class. Classes will be held each day from 9:15 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., with breaks between subjects; on Fridays, classes end at 12:10 p.m. The daily schedule will be:

Residential Life, Spiritual Life, Activities and Meals
The Summer ELL Program is not only about academic preparation; you will also begin to make Gordon your home! You will live on campus in the comfortable and safe on-campus dormitories, alongside current Gordon College students who will be remaining on campus during the summer. You will have a Residential Advisor (RA) who also lives on campus, and who will welcome you to campus and help you find fellowship and fun activities throughout the summer. You will have the opportunity to participate in optional fun activities on campus, around the North Shore area, and in Boston. You will have the opportunity to grow in faith by attending optional Sunday church services in the local area and by joining an optional on-campus small group for Christian fellowship and Bible study. Gordon College Dining Services strives to provide students with healthy and satisfying food choices. On-campus meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily) will be provided for all Summer ELL Program students, as part of our comprehensive student care, and their cost is included in the total Summer ELL Program cost. Students will have free access to the Bennett Athletic and Recreation Center on campus for exercise. The Gordon College Bennett Center is our athletics and recreational sports facility.
