Born near Eindhoven (the Netherlands) Robert Bekkers received his first music lesson at the age of 6. So keen was he to play the guitar that he built his own semi-accoustic at the age of twelve. Susan Hagen

Applied Instructor of Double Bass

Susan Hagan began teaching double bass at Gordon College in 2002. She graduated with honors from Boston University as a student of Edwin Barker, principal bass of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. She is an active freelancer, and for the past five seasons has spent most of her time performing as an extra player with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. She has also spent much time as a bassist with the Boston Pops/Pops Esplanade Orchestra.

Assistant Professor of Music

Korean-American violinist and pedagogue, Susan J. Kim, studied with Sally Thomas and Joel Smirnoff at The Juilliard School, where she earned her Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in violin performance. Walter Pavasaris teaches string methods at Gordon College. A former double bassist in the West Point Band, he began his public school teaching career in the Marshfield (Massachusetts) Public Schools. He became the director of orchestras and string teacher for the Belmont (Massachusetts) Public Schools in 1977.
